I was checking the timing on my 231 oddfire v6 and the timing was off a little. Can I rotate the dist. (GM HEI) and set the timing? I did a search on the 231 oddfire and it said something about moving the dist. would make it fire at a different spot and would have to rotate the plug wires to make it fire back in sequence. Is this right, I have to move it just a little. Also, when I adj. the idle speed do I dissconnect the vacuum hose from the advance or just when I'm setting the timing.

To change the timing you have to move the dist. and you do have to unhook the vac. advance when you set the timing, make sure you plug the vac. line as well. idk about rotating the plug wires, never heard of that. and you shouldn't have to undo the vac. advance to set the idle.

shouldnt have to move the plugwires around, unless you cannot rotate the dist enough to get it to spec

    leave the wires alone!
Only loosen the bolt a little just enough to move the dist. right will give you more advance left will give lees or retard.

HEI can give you a real good jolt be careful.:)
