This is all regarding a stock dauntless setup in a 67 cj5.

I just bolted the flywheel, clutch, pressure plate, bell, tranny together last night.

I stepped on the clutch a couple of times and something popped. It turns out that it was the frame bracket holding the ball stud. Is this a part that typically fails? Or did something bind up somewhere? Maybe the linkages are not set at the correct lengths?

So I am either going to try to weld the bracket back together or try to source a new one.... Then hopefully Ill know why it broke and get that fixed as well...

    Any ideas????
    Thanks.

You can use the :hurrican: ball stud and bracket 645086. They stub will wear over time, however the broken bracket indicates slop in the linkage. Go ahead and replace the felts and rubber boots while you are at it.

Slop in the linkage? What kind of slop?

I know everything is hooked up to the proper place.. the cables are taut.

I broke mine, and just welded it with a small plate to reinforce it....

Mine also broke a few years back. I was able to order a new bracket. I eventually installed some grease zerks in the cross shaft. The whole clutch setup seems to work better if you keep the ball studs greased.

I snapped those clean off before, once on a '77, and once on a '78. Both were darn near at the 20 year mark. I believe that's called "planned obsolescence" in the auto world....
No serious issue, just wore out.
