New here and to old jeeps. Could use some advice,
I have my newly aquired 71 cj5 with dauntless v6 in the driveway, body off and trying to remove enough oll and dirt scale to find all the bolt heads, Been scraping for a few days, used about 10 cans of gunk. Plan to take her to the carwash along with about 5 cans of easy-off oven cleaner first thing in the morning. If all goes well we should have it home and up on jackstands by 10 am.
We plan to drop the transfer case and tran, put them on a dolly and push them aside for a while. we will then start taring down the brakes and hubs for service. The jeep ran and drove well before we started. No sign of major trouble. we just want to clean it up, put things back to serviceable specks as best we can and plug up all the leaks.
My question is will I be able to buy the seals, gaskets, bearings, ect that will be needed to do this. It looks as though I can buy things like springs and suspention parts from any number of places but where should I go for other stuff.the dealer stuff if you will.
Any help with this would be great......... Thanks. Tucson

This is where a good parts man is gonna come in handy. Seals and such should not be a problem. They can cross numbers. So far on my 55, with F-134 only thing I have not been able to buy is the distributor which I found alternatives here, starter, same results, wiper switch, welcome to the site you will find all the info you need, if not just ask! Somebody knows where to get it.

Yes I did look there and will be spending allot of time there in the coming months, Thank you, Found this forum before I went and found the jeep. Don't think I would have taken on this much of a project without support like you guys supply here. Again thank you. But until I have the old parts removed and can hold them in my hand I'm not smart enough yet( thats about to change) to know what I'm looking at or for on those links. So If you say that I will be able to get the things I will need thats all I needed to know right now...were ripin it apart!
My wife and I are members of the MAK busconversion forum and also own a 62 grayhound that is converted to a motorhome, we would have never been able to handle working on our bus without the people there. so we know the vaule of a good forum. When we decided we wanted to build an older all metal jeep to pull behind the bus the first thing we did was go shoping for a forum. After finding this one we started looking for a jeep.

So thanks again for being here. I'm sure I,ll need alot of input from the experts here over the next few months.

With the exception of a few oddball brackets, virtually all the parts you need for your 71 model are available thru Walcks or Krage motorsports.

If you have a question about something and can post a picture that helps tremendously also. And welcome from central Fl! Congrats on the JEEP! :)

    Tucson,

If you are in "Tucson" there is a tremendous local source of Early CJ and Willys parts right in your backyard.

Check out Willys Works, ask for Rob.
They are on Gardner Lane, near Prince & Romero Rds.
