I have been searching all of the known suppliers for Jeep parts, and I cannot find a high back seat designed for a four point hitch seatbelt. Currently I am running a modified seat from a bronco. all the seats available Start at 1976
does anybody know where I can get seats for 1955 and 1963 Cj5s. There must have been a change In 1976, because nobody advertises seats for the earlier Jeeps. Somebody must carry seats for our older Jeeps.

I replaced my seats with Best Top low back seats. They were listed as 1976 and up, but the drivers side bolted right in. On the passenger side I had to weld a mounting plate to the inside of the seat bracket, but it fit pretty well. I wouldn't really recomend Best Top to anyone:mad: , but if these fit you could probably make any other brand or style fit with a little modification. I could probably upload some pictures of my bracket if you would like.

The drivers side seats are the only ones I intend to replace. I am going to have the passengers seats simply recovered I rarely have any passengers with the exception of my dog, which requires the seat removal. I was afraid that the newer drivers side Seats may not fit in, and would hit the rear wheel well. Was there a redesign in 1976 that would cause a space problem. I have the ability to modify the drivers side seat bracket. As long as the bottom of the seat is completely flat. I would hate to order some seats and have them not fit. I will call around and see if anybody carries best top seats because I am looking for a high backseat, should I get hit from Behind and they also need to accommodate the four or five point seatbelt, Thanks for your reply.

I wouldn't want you to go through the trouble of removing your seat. But if you can take a photograph that will give me an idea of what needed to be done. This would be helpful, even if best top isn't a quality seat. It's better than nothing, if nothing else will fit. somebody else out there must have replaced their seats possibly with something else in their early CJ's

I ended up redrilling about 2 holes per seat when I installed the bestop high backs. The back seat was a whole different story, as I don't think mine had one from the dealer.

I have a searched in the technical library and I did not find any link that went to seats and when I went to search. It was a general Google search. If you can help me out with the technical library. I would appreciate it. I had no idea that getting news seats would be this much trouble

Doug - the correct, original seats for the '55-'63 CJ5's are going to be hard to find, and they're not available in new aftermarket. Any that you DO find will likely need rebuilding. I have 2 drivers seats and one pass. (sorry, the 2nd dr. seat isn't for sale, I may have to use 2 to make one good one). I have lots of photos of them here. http://s18.photobucket.com/albums/b150/rinselman/1956 CJ5 seats/

I just missed a nice pair from a '56 recently, and here local in Parker too. I had the opportunity to buy them for a year or so, but no money. Got the money, and they were gone.:(

These are lowbacks too, you're wanting highback, right? Shouldn't be too hard to fab up mounts for most buckets, my '56 CJ5 had '66 Chevelle seats in it.

I just ran a search and came up with ~990 hits for "seats". :?

My point was we've discussed the options, or lack of seats pretty extensively here before, I guess I thought that would be more apparent in a search. Guess I was wrong.

Thanks for the link to the technical library. I have searched two pages now and 50% of the hits are for valve seats and the other 50% are for stock seats
haven't found any off-road high-back seats yet but I will keep looking. Most of the posts again lead me to sites that only go back as far as 1976. You are right Ron, This is not going to be easy. the Bronco seat I got measures about 18 inches and most of the 1976 seats are closer to 21-1/2 inches
they have a very cheap, off road seat at Checker auto parts, which is just molded plastic with a thin seat cover $49 for the seat and $29 for the seat cover it and it only has little t-nut like fittings mounted into the plastic
and for mounting and they would rip out in a second. they were comfortable
for the 60 seconds I sat in them but I doubt that would be the extent of the comfortability. I know they exist, because I have seen older jeeps with a high-back off-road seats and there is one guy I see at the grocery store. And I will wait on him to find out how he did his! anyways still looking for ideas
sorry about the long rambling post

    Doug,
Sorry, I misunderstood what you were looking for. When I read that you were having a hard time finding seats for pre-76 and seemed surprised, it surprised me, I thought it was pretty well documented here in the forum that there aren't many options.

I misunderstood just what you're looking for.
