Hi guys, been doing lots of reading but not alot of posting. I do however have a question. I have a 64 cj5 with a f134 t 90 and 5:38 gears and 31 10.50 15 tires. Runs real good up and down hills. Take off from a stop sign in 2nd gear. Pull hills in 3rd and can gain speed. Not a road rocket mind you but it runs real good. I am looking at putting 9.00x16 tires on it. I measured a tire not mounted and it measured 34 3/4 tall. I would think on a 8 inch wheel around 34. Will my f134 be able to push these tires on the road and what type of wheel would be necessary for this tire. I have 4 inch lift springs and poly bushings going on it for clearance. I also have 10 and 11 inch brakes to install. Has anyone run 9.00x16 tires on there jeep and had problems. In the woods I can use low range for power. Any opinions would be helpful. I find this site very informative. thanks from a new guy!

I was trying to find a picture of your jeep! Nearly the same color as mine too! Looks great! What wheels do you have. Thet look like the stock 4 or 5 inch wheels. Do the tires rub on the springs?Would a bigger offset be better? Sorry for all the questions but I have been looking for this info for so long, I am just excited. I am also in the process of building a 67 cj5 v6 for my buddy. I may have a question or two about that as well. This info is geat! Thank you all!

Hohohohoho, I can't claim Animal. I can claim that I put the first scratch on it though. ;)

    This is my rig:

Animal's wheels are stock 16" wheels (two came from me).

Blevisay is the guy you need to talk to. I just scratch, err, drive Animal from time to time when I'm in Tennessee.

Yes, my tires stick out a little. More in the rear than the front.

Sparky, your jeep looks nice as well. Do the tires rub on the springs on Animal? Does Animal have a f134? This is awesome. A years full of questions answered in a few minutes. At this rate, my jeep will be done in no time!

Yep Animal has a fresh F head, rebuilt about 2 years ago. Billy rebuilt his F head at basically the same time I rebuilt my Dauntless.

The lugs grab the front springs a little bit, bumpstops can be adjusted out to remove that if desired. Rear tires rub wheel wells, but that's common to all Early/Intermediate CJ-5s.

What Mcruff said, F-head, Solex carb.

I am running 33x12.50 SSR on my 63 with the F head. I put on wheel spacers (2.5") and have not had a problem. You will need to use low range to climb.

Thank you for all the help. How much lift is required for a 34 inch tire. I am seriously considering just going with the swamper. I already have 15 inch custom wheels.
