carb/firing issues?

    got the jeep out today for a drive and happened to make a stop along the way. barely got it started again for the trip home when we did it was idling very rough, and backfiring a little. what are the issues i might be having. oh yeah the fan belt broke on the way back to. luckily a buddy was able to bring me a new one that we got in before we got back on the road. any thoughtS? thanks.

    Could be lots of things...some easy fixes, some not so easy. Any thing from a little water in the fuel, to the points closing up (need regapped), to a jumped timing chain (they wear out and then jump a tooth or two causing the engine to be a little to a lot out of time) or maybe a burned valve. There are other problems that could cause your symtoms as well. I'd check the easy stuff first and then move to the more difficult. Check your fuel and change the fuel filter first. If you an inline clear one you can see water in the bottom of it if it's there.

    It could be a lot of things like Dave sead. one thing pops in my mind to ck. is the float/nedle valve . is fuel comming out the vent.
