    Hello,
I am looking at purchasing a Cj5 out of state. And, i am wondering what is the approximate weight of one? It has a 4 banger in it, and a plow...but, the rust factor I know will take care of a few pounds. I figure some where in the 1300 to 1500 range? If I am wrong please tell me. Also, what size trailer would a 5 fit on?
    Thanks,
    Chris

I know I will probally be corrected but I was under the impression that it was more along the lines of 3500-3600 lbs... I know it is a lot heavier than it looks and I would put it on a decent trailer... IMHO, a tandem axle would be the way I go.

The numbers that have been posted here before( try searching the database) range from about 2400 for a really light one up to I think about 3200lbs. So basicly double your original numbers.

Because I lost my password, yet again:oops: , and switched email addresses and well, I just thought this way would be easier. So, around 3400 pounds... Dang it, I have the access the the trailer, 16 foot tandem, but, my truck is a Ford Ranger, mite have to pass, dont know yet.....hmmmmmmm. Well, the ranger is a 2000 with the 4.0 4x4 and 4.10s. I know it could pull it, its just the weight factor, and of course, the stopping factor.
    Thanks,
    Chris

I would definately not hook that tandem to your ranger. if at all it could be done with a tow dolly but the CJ/Dolly would have the advantage over the ranger. I towed a 51 ford F1 from fla to Va with an extra cab ranger once, never again though

you should be ok with the tandem trailer if it has electric brakes that work good provided the ranger is set up for electrical brakes, if not it is easy to do. You can put 2 of them on a 20 ft. trailer, I know that for a fact. BTDT. Towed them home with my 1/2 ton Chevy. Main thing is weight distribution and of course brakes.Definitely would not try to tow dolly it, put you in the ditch and with that small of a truck wouldn't recommend a tow bar neither.

Hey thanks guys. After reading this, it may be possible. Just mite, no problem with the electric brake controller. And, I was considering a tow dolly, but, the thing with that is, if the rear axle is froze up or something like that. If I only would ov bought a 1/2 ton, no problem....stupid.. Any way, this jeep has no top a for banger and will be dry. and my gvw on my truck is slightly over 5000 as the tag on the truck says.
    Thanks,
    Chris
P.S. Sparky, what did you mean by that remark??:)

Take your time, take it easy on your trip, and enjoy the scenery. also stop and check all the towing connections and tie-downs every couple of hours or so. When you hit the rest stops.
If you have to remove the plow and stick it in the back of your ranger, which will help on the weight distribution.R)

I would add 500 pounds for the plow. Allow 2000 pounds for a decent size trailer. Are you bringing any tools? I would say at least 2500 pounds for the jeep. The weight adds up a lot faster than you may think.

When I towed my sand rail from Upper Michigan to Charleston SC I had to get it weighed. My 1000 pound sand rail ended up being a 4000 pound load.
