Just a quick question. I just installed a mechanical oil psi gauge. You know the one with a clear plastic line. The question is do I need to bleed the line for the gauge to work or just fire up the eng?

I had the same question a couple of years ago. I don't believe it makes any difference whether the line is bled or not. I did so just to be sure and the psi remained the same.........

With no air in the line you get a quicker response to pressure changes with no 'bouncing' of the readings. But it doesn't matter beyond that. Start engine and pull the line to bleed.

If the line has a pigtail the gauge will survive fluctuations better over time.

only difference i see is that you can compress air and not fluid, thus an oil filled line will show change in psi quicker,it may bleed itself over time

I expect the air will go away eventually - plastic is slightly porous.

I don't think you would ever notice the difference. Even when you bleed them, you will notice small air pockets from time to time.
