11" brake hoses

    Did I remember seeing something on here about special or a certain part number for front brake hoses for the 11" drums?

    Depending on your set up you might not need them. I didn't, but my 9" set-up did not have the little funky "S" shaped lines.

    Just came in from the garage. Mine does have the S-shaped lines.

    What does that mean?

    When I changed my 9's to 11's on Shaggy, I changed the hoses because of the way I set it up. See the writeup in the tech section under "Drilled 11" Drums". As I remember, the Wagoneer hoses were too long (15"), so I figured out the length I needed (12"), along with the end fittings, (3/8" x 24 on both ends). Then I went to Carquest (FLAPS) and we went through his catalog until we found the hoses that matched. Seems to work OK. FWIW.

    I bought hoses that fit a '75 Cj5 they came from the factory with 11"ers got them at my FLAPS.

    I reused my 10" brake hoses. I did have to tweek the S-shaped lines tp fit the 11" backing plate.

    Tried that! They ended up being wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy too long. :rofl:

    Methinks I need something ~2" longer than what we took off yesterday. Is my best bet just to do like tommy b did and have the FLAPS guys go through the books until something intersting looking pops up? :?

    Do you have any lift? Mine has hoses from an intermediate and with 2.5" of lift, the length is pretty good. I would consider the Goodridge braided stainless hoses.

    Um, no I do not. But even if I did it wouldn't matter in this particular scenario.

    I reckon I oughtta clarify. This particular Jeep has one line going forward from the master cylinder to a long hose that goes down to a tee, and steel lines running across both sides of the axle until just before the knuckle, then a hose and the aforementioned S-shpaed lines. There was also some kind of a funky guard situated atop the knuckle and held down by two of the four kingpin bolts, which was also where the line transitioned back from rubber to steel again. The guys at the wrenching party yesterday suggested elimnating all of that and just going from a longer hose from the steel line directly into the wheel cylinder. This I where I need new hoses at.

    would try the stock civvy hoses for a base line and go from there.

    Try regular 9" stock brake lines from a CJ5. I JUST took the cj style 9" drums off my 62 and they had what looks like the right hose that you need. Looks to be about 10 inches total.


    The type of setup you had on there looks just like my dad's 3b. I just looked at that last night. You could go back to the same little funky S lines, but it will be easier to get the flexible hose for 9" brakes and you will eliminate the S line and that little rubber flex line you had.

    Just so you know, one end had a male connector, and the other had the female connector. You don't want one with both male or both female.

    Thanks Brian! I guess I'll go order a pair of hoses for a '62 then and see what happens.

    I already figured out that I needed a male fitting on one end and a female on the other (the ones that came off were female on both ends), but also assumed that I could use an adapter on one end if push comes to shove.

    The Raybestos catalog comes up with a 9.85" hose with female fittings on both ends for a '62 5. Closest thing I could come up with locally is 14" long. :shock: :evil:

    Don't know if you saw in the daily post, but I know carquest in howell has a set that you need for the 9" brakes. They ordered the 10" brake lines for me and got the 9" lines instead. Might still have them there in the morning when I go.

    and I'll take them off you hands when you come to put my T90 back together. 8)

    The best solution that I found for anyone dealing with this problem was from Quadratech and it's lited as an 11" brake hose. Go figure. And if you don't like Qaudratech I'm sure they can be procured from another vendor. The Crown part number is 800896. HTH!
