Very Cool!! What process did you use to weld the caliper brcaakets on, it looks like you had to cetner them somehow to get it to sit right.

hey dan:) !! hows the bus doin in the new home? it was pretty easy actually to mount them. as they are caliper brackets from the front of a diff, the hole was allready there to provide the right centering. all i had to do was cut a notch to slip on to the tube, and open the hole up a bit to fit over the bearing bulge. i used two different checks to make sure i had the "in and out" distance right, if you follow what i mean there. i had a look how the bracket referenced the roter on the front diff, as well i pressed the piston all the way in and then centered the opening on the rotor. to weld it i just used plain old mig welder, in short pases and took my time not to heat it up to much. i also left some old races in there to control any shrinkage. i used an angle finder to make sure i was staying square to the tube as well.

for only using junk yard pieces i think it came out pertty dernd reasonable. the cost on parts was around the $50 mark. i got the little maching that i did need done for free ( a buddy) but i think if i had to pay for that the tottle price would still be under two hun.

What is the width on that axle? Is it stock Scout? It looks like it fits really nice under there. Nice work!

i am not sure off hand of the width as i never did measure it:oops: but it very close to the width of a wide axle cj. and yes it is a stock scout 44. also........ another nice thing about this diff is that both axles are the same length.

59.5" for the scout. I found a sweet way to build an easy front axle and not have to outboard the front springs. It is sitting in my basement.

Alrighty. I bought an Early bronco dana 44 front axle. It is a driver drop. Then I picked up a chevy housing for free :) I cut roughly 5" off the driver side. The passenger side is the same as the driver side bronco axle. Steal everything but the housing from the bronco axle and install on the chevy housing. Done! The only downside is the axleshafts use the smaller 260x u joint. It is 59.5" wide 5x5.5 pattern. I need to download some pics but I planned on doing a write up.
