I am doing the Herm dual chamber conversion and adding disc brakes. I have the brakes on but am having problems with the master cylinder. I do not have enough clearance for my rear brake line out of the master cylinder. I have the banjo fittings, but I dont have enough space for them, they require 1". I have attached pictures of what I have currently. Its a 5/8 line out, the bend is kind of sharp, and I have minimal clearance to say the least. Does anyone know of a thinner master cylinder I can use. I am about to push this stupid jeep off a cliff.

I have another banjo fitting, but there is not enough space for it between the transmission and the master cylinder. I am thinking about trying to lower the master cylinder 1/2" to create space, but I don't really know how I will do it.:?

It looks to me that you have the same amount of room that I had. As I have mentioned before, I used 5/8 inch nuts on 3/16 inch line. I got them from Eastwood. Here is what it looks like through the floor pan access hole and from below:

You might contact Herm again about it. He might be able to help on that.
You did inform him of the V-6 application when you ordered this, didn't you?:coffee:

I can't say that I have ever seen banjo fittings used on a MC. But, aside from that, couldn't you use a 90deg fitting screwed into the MC and then plumb your 3/16" line straight into that? My son is an IP at Rucker.

    Motorcycles use them.

Are the bolts for the banjo fittings short enough to fit with enough clearance to keep from being banged by the block? Maybe new motor mounts with neoprene would stand it off enough to help?:coffee:

Yup I have banjo fittings for the Master cylinder that connect to 3/16ths line from performance plumbing. They stick out approx 1". Herm now has them as well, I called him saturday morning. Talk about customer service, he talked with me for about 20 minutes on saturday morning at about 8 his time. I planned on leaving a message, but he answered the phone.

I have the hurricane Flathead 4.

What aircraft does your son fly, I'm about half way done with the OH-58D course. Lots of studying.

Thanks for the support everyone. This is by far the best forum I have seen.

Too me if your interested... steel lines can be siler soldered to copper or brass soo if any fittings in brass or copper would help your dilemma as a last resort..... althou I'm not sure copper would hold the pressures.....

You have the f-head four and there is no clearance for the master cylinder? Herm say that was unusual?

He said that it is a somewhat common problem because his supplier of master cylnders has changed the mold they use, the ones he used to get were narrower than what is currently available to him. I am planning on modifying the bracket to allow it to sit a little lower. I think that will be the best for me. It will also require me to modify the plunger from the pedal as well. Maybe one day, when the stars are aligned, this jeep will be drivable.R)

I have the 4cyl. in my '64. I ground the bellhousing some and also used the banjo bolts. The clearance is close but it will work. The Jeep is still on jack stands, no heat in the gaurage and its cold in Wyoming. Will be getting the remote resivore before completeing this mod..
