Yes, as a rule you don't want the load of the lights running through the switch.

    Rocky,
I did. If nothing else I get brighter headlights.

Thanks. Looks like I'll be adding a relay to my list. Should have all the extras by the time it thaws enough to get back to work on Pete.:v6:

Yep we are just waiting for it to thaw out here in guthrie to so we can get back to work on the projects.Looks like it will be awhile from what the weather reports say.Jeep is on hold for a bit til we get my kids mustang going again after the motor made the long trip to motor heaven. After 3 weeks finally found a 2.3 motor going to get it tonight. After we get it put back together then its back to the CJ. I will say its been more fun to work on the jeep (even though the bolts are rusted and harder to get loose) than his cram everthing into a space to 2 times to small to fit mustang.R)

Parts Express has them for cheap. I put them on the firewall just above the dimmer. When I installed mine, I used a reproduction old-style switch, not the newer modular type. In my case relays were a must, not optional. The switch was only rated for 20 amps. I could turn the headlights on okay, and they would run fine, a little hot, but they stayed lit. Whenever I would turn them off, however, the switch would arc and blow the fuse; go to turn them back on again and you've got no lights.
