I think you can ues the same cam with roller rockers but not with roller lifters.Just make sure the raito is the same on the rockers. Ck with a performance engine shop they can give you a good anser and have books for interchang part #.

Are you having trouble with your current rockers? Just wondering why you want to convert to rollers. For the average daily driver and even mildly hopped up engine they are really a waste of money. Originally designed for large cams or high revving motors they will relieve some of the stress and friction between the rocker and valve stem. I drag raced for several years and saw hundreds of very solidly built race motors running stock style rockers. If you have them and just want to use them that is one thing, but to go buy them, I think will could find other performance mods that you would see more bang for your buck. JMHO.

they are just kinda wore out rusty looking I would like to run a nice size cam seeing how its the origional cam and I wanted a little more power I figured I might as well. the only problem I see I might have is that I have pedistal<sp?> mounted rockers I found a set of rockers that will bolt on for my type of head for 250$ a set and a cam and rods are another 300$ they will give me a little more power with the reduced friction and better gas mileage. I am also changeing my timeing set out to a dual roller gear drive set. I am actually thinking of pulling the whole motor and takeing it to the shop to get cleaned and re valve'd and all new bearings put in along with gaskets.

thanks for the help so far

I bought a chev zz502c.u. crate motor for my boat, it has a roller cam, aluminum heads, and surprisingly, stamped rockers. I consider myself a good mechanic, just not an engineer, so I trust gm knows what was needed to make the 502 horsepower. It revs up to 5800rpm, and it does rip!

yea I may just stick with the ones I have or oem replacements I have not taken the lifters out yet but im beting they are hydrolic flat tappet? I want something that has a little more lift no bigger than .485 int/exh and with a little longer duration that stock I dont want to really have to mod my valvetrain with shims and new springs because the springs look good and the push rods look good but ill probely get new pushrods for the heck of it I also from the look of it (i posted new photos) ill be needing new valves and valve seats im sure that will cost me a fue thanks for all the help and talking me out of those roller rockers I dont know what i was thinking

Josh, I hated to rain on your roller rocker parade but I seriously think you can spend your 250 on something that will benefit you more. Good 3 angle valve job and a decent cam is really all you need. Always be cautious of anything that promises better milage from reduced friction. Great sales pitch but very, very minimal results. And don't go overboard on your cam. You want to build torque. That is what you feel in the seat of your pants when you stomp the skinny pedal. Horsepower is overrated when your 4wheeling. Torque is king, so look for a cam that will build torque. Good luck.

nah I needed a good shower, what size cam would you recommend? I dont want to have to do much to the valves I do need a valve job and I was thinking of getting the head shaved for more compression like 9:1

I don't feel I can give you a good suggestion about a cam. I have never built a 304. All the cams I have ever bought were from Isky. Decide what brand you want and contact them. Tell them what you plan to do with the motor and give them as much good info as you can. Tell them your RPM range, gear ratios, estimated compression, intake and carb and valve size. The better the information you give the better they can do to get you the cam you need. And don't be bummed out if it's smaller than you wanted. Good cam grinders want to sell you a cam that will work so you will tell all your buddies and maybe buy anonther one for your next project. Don't be afraid to ask questions about cam timimg either. Some cams work great straight up, others work better advanced or retarded a few degrees. The time to find out these things is before you button up your motor.
