My birthday present to myself came in the mail today. I'm a little bit concerned about the middle pass side. Notice the chip missing at the bolt hole? Guy I bought it from never mentioned it. Should I bother getting it welded up? This is supposedly for a 231 odd fire. Is this going to work on my :v6: ? I'm planning to bolt a 470TA on top of this thing.

If by chip, you mean the slot into the middle whole, quit worrying that's normal. :D IIRC, that's the same way my stock intake is.

Okay, then I scored. What's this bit about grinding that I keep reading in the threads?

The intake. When I searched it, I read about grinding it for some kind of clearance.

Maybe. I've been searching HEI threads, too. Read so many dang posts they're all running together.

It is made that way. You start the middle bolt, slide the intake in and tilt it down . Helps keep the gasket in place.

Clint - Grinding would be for the HEI - not needed much on the Offy. Just use a button bolt on the Dside front. I have one in the box with my new Offy I have. Can sent specs if you need it.

Yeah, I've spent some time drooling over their catalog before. I don't have deep enough pockets, though.

I did notice that on the intake page there are separate listings for 225 and 231 odd fire applications. I went out to the garage and matched the stock cast iron up with the Offenhauser port for port. Does anyone know the difference between them?

I did notice that slot, even on my stock unit. Don't know why I never noticed it there before.

My stock cast iron manifold has some kind of windage tray looking device riveted to the bottom. Anyone know what that is for?

Also, anybody know what the pipe plug on the bottom of the Offenhauser is used for?

The windage tray on the bottom of the intale is usually to keep the hot oil off the bottom of the intake runners. The whole "cooler charge makes more power" therory. Probably true on a drag car where you are timing each pass down to the thousanths of a second. Might not be able to tell much difference while doing a yard job on your X-girl friend or climbing mount rock and fallen tree.
