I am going to do a complete overhaul on my brakes..........well actually I am going to take my Jeep to a trusted mechanic to do it.
Anyway will this master cylinder work in place of the stock unit?

Will it mount in the same location or will I have to relocate it up top somewhere? I would be OK with that just not sure of costs.

I do want to do a front disk upgrade within a couple years.

Unknown. I just see a pic. Could you post some part numbers? If you're going to leave it on the frame, you might want to look into a dual resevoir rebuilt unit from Herm. It's a Tux; to each his own, but I wouldn't cut into that firewall if it were mine.

Oh sorry I thought it was a link to the page.
It is what is listed for a '65 CJ5 though it doesn't look like the frame mount unit.
    Who is Herm?

the dual master cylinder was stock on 68-71 cj's. its a smart udgrade for any pre 68 cj. that pic appears to be that unit. but of course you would need the brackets to mount it on the frame. herm makes a similiar unit. i have heard that with herm's setup, the bracket needs to be removed when taking out the master cylinder. i can't say for sure - just something i've heard. i know that isn't the case with the original 68-71 setup. here's an article on installing the original setup.

i have a complete setup from a 69 if interested. includes everything - brackets, m/c, junction block, pushrod, switches. PM if interested i can get you pics.

    Just a note...FYI

I have two "67CJ5's" and one has 10" brakes with a single MC and the other, 11" Brakes with a dual MC. The mounting look identical, but Kaiser Willys said the dual wont bolt right up to the single mc's mountings. I never looked any closer..yet

the single MC has side mounting holes. The dual MC mounts on the rear. the brackets are COMPLETELY different because of this.

I would like to upgrade to the dual unit for safety reasons.
As I understand it I could lose brakes, ie: busted line in one wheel/axle and still have brakes in the other.
I would also like to not spend a ton of money right now.....is there another way to achieve what I want to do?
Can I just mount an over the counter dual unit on the firewall and be done with it?
What have most of you done if anything?

if you mount it on the firewall, than you would have to convert to swinging pedals and cut up your firewall - a lot of work. if you want to retain your through the floor pedals (which are stock on all pre 72 cj's) and not cut your firewall, than you need to either buy herm's kit, get an original 68-71 setup, or make your own.

musta been sometime in 67 since I have two 67s and both are different!

Sounds like the bracket should be reasonably easy to make! 'specially with the tub off.

    Thanks for all the info.
"Sounds like" I may just keep the stock mc for now, though I will talk to my mechanic about the Herm's kit.
    We'll see..................
Going to get my new fuel tank tomorrow and install over the weekend then she goes to the shop on Monday (if I have time).
Hopefully after that it's just little stuff.
