I installed an oil pressure guage the other day and notice that when the engine is cold it takes a while for the pressure to rise, but once it does it sits at about 50psi. I also have a little knock after a cold start for a min sr so. Is this anything to be concerned about?

What weight is the oil? Are you sure it's just not too heavy and slow to circulate?

I think it was 30w. It's time to change it anyway.

What's normal oil pressure? I have a dauntless V6 and it sits just under 40 psi at idle.

Mine with the hi volume oil pump will idle with 68-70psi cold and once warmed up will hold 30-35 psi at idle and run down the road with 58-60 psi.

Mine makes the same noise until the oil is circulating. Lifters need to be pumped up. Hit's 50+ PSI at idle cold and driving.

Drops to 10-20 PSI under regular conditions when idling when warm.

    10W30 oil.

I'm going to change the oil tomarrow with 10w30 for the winter. I added about half a quart of Lucas Oil to it a while back so that may have thickened the oil up a bit. Can I add that Marvel Oil to the old oil and run it for a while before I change the oil to kinda clean it out or is it best to use that stuff with freash oil?

I have 25psi idle when cold, 16 hot and 65 psi down the road with hi-vol pump.

Be carefull how thick you make your oil. If you put to much goo such as STP or run to high a viscosity, you can exprience oil starvation, especially with the lifters due to the oils inability to flow properly. This is especially prevelent in colder weather when the oil doesn't want to flow at start up. Realize that your oil pressure gauge will still read high(usually way high), especially on the V6, since the pressure sender is on the oil housing.

The pressure sender is on the block not the housing.

I think the viscosity of my oil was just too thick for the winter temps here. I had 30w with a quart of Lucas oil stablizer in it. I changed it out with 10w30 and there's no longer a knock on start up and the oil pressure rises a little faster. My oil pressure stays around 50psi under norm op temp.
