Re: 3 sped or 4 speed

    Transplanted V6 I'm assuming?

Three speed. Standard three speed H pattern.

But check to be sure first. Never know you might get lucky and have a 4 speed.

    Thanks Sparky,

Yes it's a transplanted V-6. I thought that the V-6 was standard in the 65 tux? I know the Dauntless didn't come out until '66 and my sources tell me that they stuck that engine in when the Jeep was still pretty new.

I think that it only a twin stick? I am going to consult my pictures.

Standard engine was the :hurrican: for any CJ-5 AFAIK.

:v6: didn't appear until '66 anyway so how would it be standard for a '65 Tux Park?

It's not an uncommon swap. I forgot, Tux Park, prolly has a single stick t-fer.

As you can see by this picture it looks like the floor-board has been modified a bit.

    Thanks for the diagram.

I've also attached a pic of the rear diff. Looks like maybe a bad seal?
The thing was towed about 1/2 mile.......don't know if it was "wet" before we towed it though.

Re: 3 speed or 4 speed new question, old post

The diagram above shows a 3-speed I now know mine is a 4-speed. I drove it a little yesterday (no brakes yet) and was in low range but it seemed like I just came down one notch from the top on the t-case shifter and it was in low........maybe wrong though. Also when it was all the way up (to the firewall) I had nothing.

My reverse is up and right.......would the t-stick be the same pattern as the diagram?

    It's a 4-speed.
I figured it out and the diagram is on the bear creek survey site but I don't know how to post it.

T-98's and early T-18's were to the right and toward the dash. Late T-18's were to the right and back. Nickmil

If it's got a Warn overdrive, it'll have an extra gearshift lever (total of 4 levers). It's an overdrive unit that fits in the PTO hole in the Spicer 18 transfer case.
