Dropped my frame off yesterday at the powder coaters!! I can't wait to start putting everything together. What do most people do with front and rear ends and leaf springs as far as painting/coating. I was wanting to blast and paint the tie rods, drag link, springs, and front and rear ends. Suggestions??

I can't add pics. Says page cannot be displayed!?!

If you want to take everything apart, you can have all of it blasted and powder coated. Other than that, the next step down is just blasting, priming, and painting. Or you can also do a pretty good job with a wire wheel on an angle grinder, priming, and painting.

If nothing else, just cleaning up pretty good and painting makes it look a little better, but since you're having the frame coated I would have to assume you want everything else to look nice as well.

I'm in the same boat. I had my frame powdercoated and it's beautiful, now I want every part that will be black to be powdercoated too. Not quite sure how I'm gonna handle that, but since the Jeep fund jar is empty I'll probably be doing a lot of Rustoleum Satin Black.

Bout all I can say is hang out with your powdercoating guy. Become a good friend of his, or at least somebody that stops by to visit from time to time. That is how I am with mine, and on the smaller stuff he will just throw it in with something else that he is doing of the same color without charging me, and if he does, it's never much $$ that way. Even if you aren't a good friend of whoever does it for you, talk to him a little about it and let him know you have some smaller stuff you would like to get done, but you don't have alot of $$ to pay to have it done. If you take a couple items at a time up there, and you are never in a hurry to get them done, he might do the same kinda deal for you on it.

Of course it does help that my powdercoating guy is a customer of mine, a fellow offroader, and also a Jeep guy.:)

Looks nice. Took me a minute to figure out that the tub wasn't hanging from the ceiling by some invisible straps though.:)

Amen, I thought it was hanging off the ceiling, and only someone crazy to walk under it.

Cool! Welcome to the club! Feels good, doesn't it?

What vintage is the tub? There doesn't seem to be much demand for tubs here in Colorado. I checked one out for a fellow board member, and the guy ended up GIVING it away just to get rid of it. I shoulda grabbed the tailgate off it when I had the chance, but I ended up with a better one anyway.

It's a '72 and in good shape for it's age. Leaving next week for VA so it will probably wind up at the scrap yard.

I went through a lot of Satin Black on my olds...did the engine accessories, inner fenders, etc. with it and they came out beautiful. The inner fenders were plastic media blasted, and everything else I spent a lot of time on with a fine wire wheel.

On my truck I painted the running gear under it with some generic black rattle can once...didn't clean the rust off (or even the dirt!) and just blew paint everywhere. Looked pretty good for about 3 years and then the rust started coming through again. I was amazed it lasted that long since I did exactly zero prep work. With proper prep work black paint should have a pretty good life span...not as good as powder coating, but a whole lot cheaper. And you can always do "touch up" every few years to keep it looking fresh if you want.

I cant believe that no one wants your tub! Especially if you are just going to scrap it. I would take it in a heartbeat, but your a little far away from Washington State. Bummer.

Wow, I would love to have a tup that is not rotted through to keep me warm in the winter. A tub it that condition around here would sell for easily around 300-400 $$$ I cant believe you can justify scrapping it!!!

Did you list it on Craigslist? There's a lot of Jeep activity on the Denver list, somebody might need/want it. I wish I had the room to store it, I'd take it off your hands just to save it, and pass it on to someone that needs it.

Just a thought on the tub.. I know shipping would be killer but an anonymous collection of $$ from ppl here would add up fast to send it to a soul willing to store it:) We did something similar on Creative mods to ship a new pc case to a fellow member overseas that won the case through our forums one contest but he couldn't afford shipping. (He was VERY appreciative)
