Is there any other aftermarket cj6 tubs other than the jcwhitney one? I was looking into fiberglass tubs. Anyone had any luck with the jcwhitney one.

The only other choice is a steel MD Juan tub.

Metal work on Jeep tubs should be fairly simple since they are all flat panels and few compound curves. If you're thinking of discarding your tub, esp. a CJ-6 tub, somebody out there will want it.

I did some research into this a few years ago. At that point in time none of the other Fiberglass body manufactures did CJ-6 tubs or even had a history of doing so.

I have used the JCWhitney bodies before (CJ-7's and CJ-5's). They are okay. If you are looking for a show peice then you will want to repair your body or get a new steel one. They have some suttle differances. The main one is that the cowl is not indented for the windsheild hinges. You will also need to paint it when your done cause the gel coat is not really glossy. The bodies are made well and are just as strong as any of the others out there. They are also made in the states (IL to be exact). I have used them on several trail rigs that I have built for people and they hold up well. I have one on my CJ-5 that I bought used and it is still holding good. For the cost compared to the others it's worth it. The other bodies are nicer but unfortunately they won't build CJ-6 bodies.

I can't speak for metal tubs from JCW, but if you go fiberglass I've been very happy with my 4wd Hardware fiberglass tub.

JCW has CJ6 in 'glass. No metal. 4WD doesn't have any CJ6 tubs.

My 1966 CJ6 came from the Ozarks -- I had to do extensive fixes to its tub to make it runnable again.-- not pretty but usable.

It was so bad that the body was tied, cabled and shakled to the frame.

It had serious rust-- and rusted through in SIX large areas--about size that averaged the size of a dinner plate. And a multitude of areas needed serious welding and reinforcement. THe biggest rusted out areas were---The front floors-- the rear fender where the spare hung. One place in front of a rear fender-- Also several small places bed where the body mounted to the bed were shot--- and the wheel well in back.
There were only two secure points on the tub that held the tub on that were stock. The previous owner shakled the body on with all-thread in four other areas.

I bought a full sheet 16 gauge sheet metal and welded large flat repairs. I used about 3/4 of a full sheet( 4 ft by 8 ft) The tub also was coming apart at the seems so I reinforced the seems. And the ribbing that the factory filled with wood strips had to be replaced. I bent sheet to do this and used 1''x2'' 1/8 rectangular tubing. The use of these materials was not the most hi-tech---because you can buy replacement panels-- but I have a $$$ budget and the repairs were extensive.

I have been a hobbiest welder for over 25 years-- not a pro-- and not an automotive professional-- but I was confident that I could make the old tub usable again-- and I did-- but it is not perfect by any means--I made mistakes, was out of practice oxy-ace welding-- and some places are really ugly--- When sheet metal is welded and rewelded-- hammered on and rewelded-- WARPAGE happens.

As a result, the tub warped. I controlled much of the warpage so that the tub warped or arched in the middle about an inch or so upward. I planned this by the order I conducted the welds in the repair. In this way the tub will eventually settle and stetch back downward into normal. I did not think it noticable to most people-- but I can see the arch. I did massive repairs to the frame too--and boxed in the end sections of the frame front and rear---

This was a case where most all the panels would have to be replaced if I bought panels--- and the total cost was just too much to justify. And the cost of a new replacement tub is just too much!!!!

The labor involved is beyond being reasonable---! But it was fun

All I have to do to make it run now is wire the lights-- its been four years-

As I understand these tubs are set up to be as close to stock as you can get. They make sure all holes, accesses, captured nuts holes are in place, oh, did I say break out the cash. They are expensive, but they stand behind the tub and seem really knowledgeable. When I get ready to replace mine these are the folks I will be dealing with. Give them a call and talk with them.

If I had a tub I probably would be trying to repair it. I have really been wanting to build up a cj6 instead of a cj5 for my daily driver project. The reason for the cj6 more room and will allow longer driveline. I was going to build a custom frame for the Jeep since I am doing alot of modifications such as YJ springs and suspension and saginaw swap and putting in a diesel engine. Figured it would be easier to build the frame find a cj6 body and put it on the frame or lenghten a CJ5 body. The project is going to hopefully look like this drivetrain wise.

Dana 44 Front and Rear out of waggy.
    Isuzu Diesel C223
    Yj Suspension
    Power Steering
    Transmission. Either T18/Dana 20 W/overdrive or Ax15 with an Dana 300

Goal is to get a daily driver with around 25-28 mpg that could do around 60 or 65 on the highway if need be.

    Hey Michaelo Snap!
I've got a 56cj6, and an Isuzu c240 diesel ex-cj7 sitting in my shed, my tranny is np435 and d300, I'm really not sure wether the C240 is going to be tooo much of a slug and to rebuild it will cost me abt $2250 US so I'm fence sitting at the moment, my other alternative for an oiler is the nissan sd33, I've got bellhousings for both to mate both trannys to the NP435, but the sd33 has length issues cause it's a 6, might have to use a DJ grill, any way keep us posted :) diesels are cool

Doesn't Toolbox have a CJ6 that he's taking parts off of for his '55 CJ5, and he's going to dispose of the '6 carcass? Get ahold of him and see if he's going to sell the tub, and what shape it's in. He's in Montana, that's not terribly far from Nebraska.

Sure do...it's a '59. I listed in the classified section. I'm open to offers :) . Right now I'm trying to sell everything I didn't use for the '55...lots of stuff, and I'm including some M38A1 stuff that I have but probably won't need.
