Dumb question, where is the VIN/serial number on a '47 CJ-2a?

And what is involved w/ registering/tagging a vehicle w/ no VIN or serial number?

Should be on a metal tag on the firewall, drivers side IIRC. If the tag is missing, the serial number can sometimes be found stamped on top of the frame rail... drivers side for flatties IIRC, between where the bumper bolts on and roughly the grille area.

Also the rules vary from state to state. You don't say where you're at so hard to be helpful in that respect;). Nickmil

Arkansas. I have no title or anything for mine, it was given to me by a family who has since passed away.

I will not be able to look at it until this weekend, it's dark out when I get home.

It's usually best to make a couple of anonymous phone calls to the dmv to ask what has to be done. The rules vary greatly from state to state, so it is best to know how your state works before you show up with the jeep for an inspection.

The tag is on the firewall passenger side top for flatties -- under the hood. (this is the most common anyway)

There is also one on the drivers side frame rail just behind the bumper usually too.

For michigan I got a green form from SOS, had the police come to my house, run the VIN and body numbers, he signed off that it wasn't reported stolen and I took that to SOS and applied for a title. Got my 1946 jeep title in the mail oct 31st
