I bought an old '48 CJ-2A. The previous owner had swapped the F-134 Hurricane into her. The only problem is that in order to clear the air filter, they cut a nasty hole in the middle of the hood.

I once saw a picture of someone with an old 2A and the F-134 swapped in, and they didn't have to cut any holes in the hood. Anyone know how I can stuff that F-134 under the hood of a 2A without cutting a hole in the hood?

    Thanks,
    Evan

It likely had a Ford Falcon carb on it, those fit correctly & allow the hood to close normally. Not too hard to find, but normally have to be completely rebuilt, & the one that came in my M38A1 was pretty finicky. I say go for it, the extra horses are quite nice in the 2A, from what I hear (really wouldn't know, still running a stock L-Head in my 2A).

Great! Thanks very much! I think I'm going to try to find a Carter YH side-draft carb like the one mentioned in that article. Sounds interesting.

    Thanks again,
    Evan

probably could do a SMALL body lift and not even notice... it would allow you to upgrade the body mounts too

That's exactly what my '47 has - a Ford Falcon Holley carb. Previous owner did the F-134 swap, but I also put a 1" body lift just to make sure there was plenty of hood clearance when trail riding.
