53?

Found this jeep, tag on dash is stamped 53 along with other military info ? is it a 53

 

Mines a '53. Looks like that one. Not sure how long they made the M38-a1...but I think it was into the 70's.

No hinged grill though. What does that mean? When did they stop with the hinge?

Here is a link. Sounds like it could be a '53 M38. Do you have the serial number and other pictures. From the grill and windshield it looks military. The experts will chime in shortly I am sure.

Does it still have the data plates on the passenger side? Those usually have the date that they were put into service. That's usually the year model they seem to be given once they are civilians.
