Axle differential lubrication question

    What kind of lubrication is supposed to be used in the front and rear differentials? Looking at the steering knuckle, I would think have the right viscosity would be critical.

    The knuckle needs thick stuff, but the diff just needs good gear oil. I use Sta-Lube Gear Oil #SL2472, GL-4/GL-5, SAE-80 plus a Lim. Slip additive if you have a limited slip.

    Texas, I would use 75/140, and for the steering knuckles do as Posimoto suggests.

    Maybe you're thinking that the knuckle and the axle share oil? They do not - there is a seal between them.
