    Delco 10SI help

I had a little battery incident on the trail Saturday, and my alt quit working. I replaced the batt cable that was fried, no joy. I figured it was probably the ext volt reg, so I went to my FLAPS to get a new one. FLAPS said it was special order, could be days. I decided to swap my ext reg alt for a 3-wire int reg 10SI. About the same price, anyway.

I put the alt in, ran a new ign wire for the field, hooked up the batt, no joy. My batt is drained down to 11.2vdc now. It barely starts the motor, so long as it fires on the first rollover. All I get, though, is batt voltage at both the field wire and main post. I've checked over several 10SI web pages, and it doesn't appear that I missed anything.

    Any ideas?

Got it. I bought a reman unit. They zinc coated the terminal numbers, making them undecipherable. As a result, I had the wires backward.

    8) Glad you got it all sorted out.

Man that 12SI must really cook! How many amps is it rated, and did you have any issues getting it to fit?

    Re: Delco 10SI help

Actually, my first post was incorrect. It is a 10SI. 63amps. Still an improvement over stock, but the biggest benefit to me is ditching the external voltage regulator. Very easy upgrade, and only $10 more than the voltage regulator alone.
