Im in the process of removeing my T-98 and Spicer 18. How do you remove the shift levers on the T-case?

In the manual that I have it says to remove the set screw and slide the shaft out.. I cant find that set screw for the life of me.

Anyone point me in the right direction.

    Thanks in advance.

If I remember right, the set screw points forward from the driver's side stick. Mine was real loose, so your's may have already rattled out. Like you said, the tech manual says to remove the screw and drive the shaft out...my shaft didn't budge. I ended up pulling the motor/trans/transfer as a unit.

Isn't there a hole in the side of the head to put a wire through to keep the bolt from comming out? That is how mine was.

It goes here. Unless it was replaced or fell out, it should be a square head with a safety wire hole in it.

Even after removing the remains of the set screw, the shaft did not wanna move. I finally used a slap hammer on the threaded end.

Getting the levers off is a pain when you are dealing with the T-98. You just can't get behind the pivot rod to push it out and there is no way to pull it out. If you had the T-90 it would be 'relatively' easy to get this out.

I fooled with one for a while, and finally decided that what I was really trying to do was to engage the levers in the t/c, so I took out the anti rattle springs and maneuvered the levers into the detent on the shift rails.

If you do end up taking the t/c off, you might address this issue. You could then easily pop the shift lever pivot out with a drift, but then you'd have to put it back. It would be nice if you could somehow cut some threads other than the grease fitting into the pivot so that you could put a bolt in to have something to pull on in the future.

This is your chance to be creative. Maybe you grind a 16 th of an inch off of the dual stick unit so that you can get something between trans and t/c to pry with???

:flag: i had the same problem with mine so I decided to unbolt the bellhousing from the block and take everything out together, transmission, transfer and bellhousing, what it ended up being was the spring on the throwout bearing once I took it out together it was fine but I did have to buy a new spring because I had stretched the other out trying to remove it, hope this helps.
