Brown & lipe was a gear and differential company. I think they made transfercases to aid in the producion quantity's needed during the war.

It was really neat working on it, since all the bolts on the front cover still had the original safety wire on it and once I got it open there was more inside it also.

All the WWll Willys and Ford jeeps used the Brown Lipe case. I think all column shifts had it too. At some point Dana bought it out and Brown Lipe Spicer became Dana Spicer

I just rebuilt a Brown-Lipe in a 49 2a. It had a 1 1/8" shaft.....it also had an Advanced Adapters tapered bearing kit in it. Kind of threw me for a loop until I spoke w/some old-schools. "GPW" was cast into the case. Not knowledgeable to know what's up with this.....the case on the T90 had side shift linkage also....was wondering if it was a transplant?

This was a kit that helped with the loud gear noise, ware and is a good thing to have.

The side shift T90 is highly desirable for someone doing a column shift restore. Might be worthwhile to replace with a standard T90 if you have one and sell the other one.

Dana Spicer was formed long before WWII, Clarence Spicer was the man, Charles Dana was the attorney, politician, and financier that enforced the patent rights that kept Spicer in business. Dana has never made anything, they are the division holder of several company's. The 18 is a spicer transfercase with a dana logo on it.

Brown & Lipe was bought by GM in 1923

I should have said became part of Dana Spicer instead of became Dana Spicer.
I spoke w/ a gent from Dana Spicer who was an apprentice when the prototype military jeeps came in. He personally worked on them and modified the designs. He said they never should have brought Brown Lipe into the company as it was known as the farm division and all its receivables were noncollectable. I guess the dust bowel and depression hit the farmers hard and they had nothing but IOU's to give.
I originally called him to get pto info on the early 2A's and Agrijeeps.
