I just aquired a '66 CJ5 with a 225 Dauntless engine. My question to all of the early CJ5 experts out there is; Does the 66 have side marker lights on the front fenders and should the rear tail gate be stamped with JEEP on it? This JEEP spent the first part of it's life as as USAF Academy vehicle.

No on the lights, drawing a blank on the tail gate.

The tailgate on a 66 should not have jeep stamped in it, it should be blank. The 70's started having jeep stamped in it.

Thank you for all of the info. How about a good source for '66 parts. I haven't decided what I'm going to do with it yet. The only rust I can find is on the tops of the the rear fender wells. Other than that everything seam to be there. The engine even starts and sounds good.

Sounds like a good start. Are you from Colorado?

I knew it started in the '60s, hence the qualification IIRC. ;)

    Thanks Mcruff.

    I'd suggest you drive it.

There's a forum here with comments about parts suppliers. If you read through, you'll find some good places.

    Welcome from Boston!
