I have a 1974 cj 5 with all new parts in the front. I have 33 inch tires I am going to take it to an alignment shop monday. Has anybody had a feel of over steer on this vhicle above 45mph so that you cant get it to run straight. I feel it has to due with the caster and the body lift. Please feel free to give me advice on how you may have solved this problem.

Check tire pressure. Tire shop put my 33 X 12.50 X 15 on 8 inch rims at 40 PSI. I had a bad wonder problem. After talking to a few jeepers I am now running them at 22 PSI.

Steering "wander" is a common problem and has been addressed many times on this forum. Do a search using the spelling "wander" & you will get more info than you want. Caster is most likely the culprit and is also addressed ad infinitum.

:iagree: with all that was said.

A body lift shouldn't affect the caster. A suspension lift will. 5* shims clear it up nicely. At least in my Jeep.

When I first got my jeep it would hesitate to turn then just bolt off to one side or another over 30mph. I don't know if this is what your experiencing but I got it mostly fixed by getting a rebuilt ps pump. However it still tends to dip in and outta the ruts in the road. 33's on 10'' rims + the steering of a jeep :)

I found that narrower tires dramatically reduced the road wander. I still have 33s but the 12.5s were alot more squirelly than my 33x10.5s.
