I belive the V6 to be the best motor ever offered in a Jeep, both in power and torque. BUT, the fun factor and challange of the four can't be forgotten. PS. my stock 71 with 3.73's and 32's pulled 25mpg cross country, although at 50mph it took me a long time to get there.

Here are two things to consider.....1. My Hurricane has never let me down, it's a great motor! 2. Why would you want to go 65 mph in a CJ-5 ???????
    Just a thought... JAT

Meaning there's issues with the V6?

C'mon guys. Seriously, I like the Hurricane but if you're driving in traffic everyday, I'll keep the :v6: thank you.

If you want it for trail use and putting around town and back roads then the F-head is fine. One reason I sold mine was I lived 20 miles from "town" I'd never get there, I'd have gotten run over first on the two lane hiway. At least with the V6 you can keep up with traffic at a reasonable pace.

For those that ask why go over 65? Speed limit between my house and work is 70 MPH, if 65 is at the limit for my Jeep I'm not too comfortable with that scenario. I'm not gonna hinder traffic more than I need to. Especially not with the hills around here. If you don't feel safe at that speed perhaps the Jeep isn't in the best shape to be driving? Mine feels perfectly fine at 65-75 mph.

The V6 makes for a much better driver, argue with me all you want, say I'm biased, etc. but for the real world if you commute any distance and it's on the hiway I recommend a V6.

    Ok , Ok, I admit that I'm envious because I don't have a V6.

    Case in point.

I love Animal, Animal is GREAT off-road and fun to tool around in on a Sunday afternoon. But last time we did we pulled over at least 2X to let folks by. That's not fair to other drivers unless it's on a Sunday afternoon. On a daily basis, I just don't think it's necessary when there is a good option.

I'm NOT calling the F-head a boat anchor, or worthless. I like 'em, just not for what the application is that's being called for here.

:iagree: x2 It gets pretty scarry at 65 mph with a 4 unless you have an overdrive. Really loud too. I take the back roads all the time. But I have found out the bigger the tires say 33's or 35's the lower the rpm at 65.
