Thanks Anders!! I put pressure on the ring gear when turning the front. I am going to get an old belt and tighten it up to the gear to add drag. The preload is in spec. just going for backlash and pattern now. i will post up results later

OK... Last night i pulled it all part again. I took a sharpening stone and ran it on the surface of the carrier and ring to clean anything off. There are no burrs, it was rather clean. So i put the carrier in the freezer for the ngiht. This morning i installed the ring gear and torqued it down. Boy does rust flash form quickly after the humidity got to the cold carrier. I wiped it all down and shot compressed air on it. So i installed it in the housing. My readings are between .005 and .009 going around. I did more postiinos than just 3, but they are coming out to be the same. So i am going to get a pattern later on and see from there.

Here is the pattern i am getting from today. I added a black line to help show the pattern. It is not "WORN" away to metal, but it is obvious on the marking compound that there was gear contact up to the line i drew on the pics. The coast side is towards the toe, and the drive pattern is straight across. Good or Bad?

Take a picture of were the pinion marked the gear after your marking compound. That is useually a little easier to read. It doesn't look too bad, obviously not set were it was before though.

Run it. Even thought it is a used set of gears do a standard break-in procedure on them (they should be available on Randy's site). Once you get them broke in, pull the cover and check you numbers and pattern.

    Dan,
Hate to be critical but is that pitting on the gear teeth? If it is, I don't know if I would put that much work into it. I would probably opt for a new gear set.

They are used. Yup it is some pitting. I am not that worreid about it. The jeep is mainly trail and sometimes around town. Pitting doesnt bother me much, it kind of a usual thing down here. i had pitting on other gears and they are fine. Thanks guys!! I just have to find if there is an inner oil seal in the axle, then i can button it up.
