I know there's been a lot of discussion about running the Holley Pro-Jection on the V6's, but does anyone run it on a V8? I'm considering putting it on my Chevy 283, but I want some opinions first. How much of a difference does it make in mileage and driveability, etc etc.

I know of several folks running it on Chebby V8's and they make a huge difference in the driveability of it. Only issue I have seen is that they tend to take some of the performance away from engines that are not stock and most of these guys are taking the Pro-Jection off and going to propane. In most cases, the propane set up is a couple hundered bucks cheaper, and it really wakes a built motor up. A buddy of mine just switched to propane on an EB with a 460 in it and he has got a ton of hp now and drove all day this past weekend on one tank that only cost him $16 bucks to fill up. You can't beat that for a 460.

Shoot, I kinda got to rambling, for street use as well as offroad, it should work good for you though, it just seems to work better on stock built engines.

I have it on big berth and it works great for me. 1ton 4x4 dodge extended van with a warmed up 360, TF727 Trans-pac'ed, ford 203 t-case ,dana 60's at 5.12, and 35x12.5x16.5 BFG's it will light'em and still gets 18mpg

the key to propane is compression. iirc, the idea ratio is like 15-16:1. for a mostly stock or mild engine stick with f.i. unless you like running on your lid. the newer projection kits work pretty well. drivablity is hands down better and mileage may go up.

I've got it on my 308 (aussie GMH motor) 2 barrel, always seems to put to much fuel in, no matter what i try, but it doesn't flood out on hills
probably needs a good dyno tune

Yeah, I'm only running 10:1 compression, too low for propane, although that would be cool someday. That's pretty cool that the van gets 18mpg with that setup...I'm averaging about 14. I think I know what i'll be asking for for Christmas this year :)

I run Projection on my Scrambler, and it works fine. Propane won't give you more power than gasoline, BTW- if guys are making more Hp with Propane than they are with a Projection system with no other changes, they are doing something incorrectly. LPG will produce less power than gasoline in the same motor, with the same cam and compression (about 5-15%). You also don't need 15:1 compression to run propane- my Comanche runs LPG with 10:1 compression, and has no issues other that the fact that it makes less power than when it ran on gasoline.

    Some Propane Conversion Info
