Clunk

I've been tinkering with my Jeep ever since I finished all the big projects. I haven't gottent he clutch adjusted correctly, at least it's not smooth like it was before I started all my projects.

Something else that isn't like it was before is that, when I shift from second gear into third gear (and at no other time), I hear and feel a "clunk" as I release the clutch pedal.

Is this a symptom of my failure to adjust the new clutch pushrod to the correct length, is it a universal joint complaining because I put on a four inch lift and changed the drive shaft angle, or does the clunk mean that my rear axle is about to explode?

I'm a pessimist, so I'm taking option 3. Hopefully, your experience and wisdom will tell me I am wrong (or right)

Would a syncronizer between second and third gear going out cause this??

 

I don't know. Man, there are so many possible causes, I may not find what the problem is before I end up walking lol

 

My thinking is that the rear end would make the clunk regardless of the gear. And the ujoints are easy enough to check, just get under there and try to wiggle the driveshafts. Also like the rear end it seems to me it would do it all the time. Check your tranny and engine mounts for any wear. Also go ahead and adjust the clutch linkage since you know that it needs to be done. Its always easiest to check all the simple/free stuff before you just start guessing and replacing expensive parts.
