I know this info is in here somewhere but cant find it. I have read that 30/950x15 is as large as you can go without a lift kit in a 62 CJ-5. I have looked at quite a few different tires and kind of fancy the baha claw by mickey thompson, their smallest one is 31/10.50x15. I was just wondering what kind of body/frame rubbing issues I mught have? Is there an advantage using radials over belted tires? My wheels are 15x8 with a 3 7/8 backset. This jeep is used mostly on a ranch or hunting trips with various types of terrain. Very seldom if ever used on a paved highway.

31's will be fine. I had them on speedy before the lift with the saggy original springs and they were fine. Here's a photo before the lift

My buddy had 33's on a CJ6 w/o a lift. As long as you don't mind a huge turning radius and you do not compress the suspension, meaning go off road, even these will work. I have 32's on a 45 2A right now.

Are your present springs the originals?
Or possibly older ones that have lost some of their original ride height?

Just curious.....that definitely radically alters your ability to fit larger tires.

That's why I put my lift on....my springs were pooped/had cracked leaves and the 3" lift was very simple and cost effective.
    I'm tickled with the results.
    33's? NO problem.

Running 32in MTRs on my stock 66 with no lift. I haven't gotten the rear tires stuffed into the wheel wells yet, but it seems like there is still quite a bit of room. Front tires rub if I try to turn too quickly...gotta adjust those stops one of these days....

My springs are probably sagging a bit. I had them re-arched about sixteen years ago. I also had an extra leaf put in the front because I was packing a snowplow. No more snowplow, too hard on the jeep, Better to use a junk 4X4 pickup. I am gonna go ahead with the 31 inch tires. You guys are a great help thanks lots!

I am currently running 31x10.50s on my '65 5A without any troubles, and the jeep has saggy springs to boot, not to mention that the Tuxedo Park came with two-stage springs to give it a softer ride, so it will sit a hair lower anyways.

Keep in mind that if they are the Claw radials, they tend to run small.
