Hi, Does anyone know if a Warn#8074 is a good winch? It looks alot like the# 8274. I am looking at one to buy. Any info on electric winches would be helpful. . Thanks Dave

I don't know about the 8074 but I just got a Warn M8000 from 4 wheel parts today via UPS and they have some good deals on them for July. I asked a similar question about electric winches a couple weeks ago. Some other brands are Mile Marker, Superwinch, and Ramsey. I was pionted towards the Warn. They are priced accordingly but seem to be rated really well among those I talked to. Hope this could help a little.

I have a Warn 8274 and can attest it is a great winch. It has fast line in and line out speed, which makes winching faster. Also, they are comact and fit between frame rails easier.

    Happy winching!

I bought my first winch (Around '94), I called Warn for some parts, and they said I had an 8074, even though it said 8274 right on it. AFAICT. it is the same as an 8274, without the free spool. (You can add the free spool lever, that is what I did with mine)

it's probably this one. it was origanally bellvue then bought by warn. made forever. i have 2. great winchs. only burnt up one motor. 8274 was a redesign of these. basically better brakeing system and motor/spur gear.

if you don't want it, let me have the guy's number.

If it really is an 8074, it wouldn't be the Bellview style. The 8274 came out in '74, that is what the "74" stands for. The "8" is for 8,000, and the "2" is for 2 way (Power in and out) I have read the the 8074 was dealer installed or optional only, but I'm not too sure about that.

yep, knew the reason of the nominclaycher (sp.) of the 8274, but all the winchs i have seen, read, or refered to as a 8074 was a bellvue (how ever you spell it). however my old paperwork just say m8000. maybe i just talked to all idiots. 32 years since last production, things names change or go slang.

    anyway, :uwop:

I own one of these winches which I've always refered to as an 8074, but the ih8mud site calls a 5687 and the old Warn docs call an M8000. Whatever it's called, it looks like an 8274 but olny has power-in, no power-out.

BTW, the ih8mud site used to have many more docs which I've saved if anyone wants can pm me. They're all old bad scans of the docs (maybe sparky wants to host them??)
