What is the best sealant to use when installing new windshield/cowl rubber? Brands? Types?
    Thanks,
    Andy

Are you talking about the gasket on the bottem of the frame, or the window gasket?

I just reread your post, I think its 3M that makes a weather strip adhesive ( sp? ) we called Yellow Death. R)
Not sure you need it though.

I didn't use any, just the seal itself.

That gasket mounts with screws, so you shouldn't need any sealant, unless the screws/holes aren't usable. In that case I'd use the 3M Weatherstrip Adhesive or regular ol' black silicone. That Yellow Death is some nasty stuff, but it's great for gluing weatherstripping to painted sheetmetal.

3M makes a black weatherstrip adhesive, too.
Not as nasty as the yellow death.

I installed my brother's seal dry with the screws on his '74 CJ5.
    No problems!

I think I will just put it on without any and see what happens.
    Thanks for the help!

Can anyone tell me why the cowl rubber I purchased from Qudratec does not fit? Are there several different companies making these?

The screw holes in the rubber match the underside of the frame, but when the window is latched the bottom of the rubber does not extend below the top of the cowl (I can see some daylight under the cowl as well as the top of my defroster duct).

Maybe you got the wrong one? There's several different windshield frames, so there's probably a couple different gaskets too, I'd imagine.

There's two style of WS Frame 55-75 and 76+ for CJ-5s as far as this application is concerned. The cowl and WS frame outer dimensions never changed 55-75.

I know mine differs from the one I ordered for MOP. So I doubt you could put the wrong one on.

It is the correct year range, but the new one is at least 1/8 of an inch thinner than the original seal.
