My brakes were OK but pulled hard. I redid everything on the fronts and now it feels like the pedal is hitting something half way depressed and no brakes. If I stomp them really hard I have some brakes. Any help gang??

To expand on my question...I have a 2 outlet master cylinder. When I step on the brakes it feels like it is hitting something half way down the stroke and it makes a tick sound like it is hitting something but I have been under and over and I can't see anything in the way. When I push the brake pedal with the cover off I get a spurt up in both chambers. This is really bugging me!!

Original or conversion MC? If it's a conversion, I'd check the pushrod diameter. My original pushrod had a threaded adjustment in the middle. This wouldn't work with the conversion MC.

I'm not sure but it was on it when I got it and worked then.

No problems then before the brake work? If not, I'd pull the drums and inspect the springs and hardware, check for debris, loose hardware etc.

Sounds to me more like a blockage in a line, or in a brake cylinder/piston. I would also consider rebuilding or at least checking the master, as rebuilding brake components at the wheels frequently spells death for a master cylinder teetering on the edge.

Good info I also had a thought. Not sure this makes sense but I'm wondering if the front brakes have now seated in (which puts them out too far) and when I step on the brake the rear brakes are hitting the drum and only when I "hammer" the pedal do the fronts engage. I'm going to try re-adjusting the fronts in the morning before pulling the master cyclinder. A new one looks like over $100 and I haven't found a source for a rebuilt yet. By the time I buy a hone I might as well just pay someone else to do the work.

I got my dual mc from Pepboys, it was $30. plus like a $15 core charge.
Yep, it only going halfway means you've only got half your system working. BTDT

HAH! The brake pedal is doing exactly what it feels like and sounds like it is doing. After pulling wheels and getting ready to pull the master cylinder; I dragged my wife out to the garage to push the brakes with me underneath.
The brake pedal is hitting the block of my 225. There is no washer or spacer on the pivot shaft, just a cotter pin. The pivot had worked its way over toward the block enough to hit it. I slid it left and it just barely clears the motor. Now I just need to put a spacer of some kind to keep it over to the left (left from the drivers seat). Everybody with through the floor brakes and a twin M/C conversion and a 225 ought to take a quick look as if it does what mine did you all of a sudden DON'T HAVE BRAKES in a panic situation.

I noticed that when I put the dual MC in mine. But this critter, the shaft was going in at an angle, and the shaft adjustment was hitting the lock ring in the MC. I kept adding washers until that problem cleared up. My through shaft is a bit worn, so if the problem comes up, I will probably need that replaced/fixed/modified.
    It never ends!:(

I just fixed it well enough so I can wheel next weekend but I will need to pull the whole shaft, brackets and all out and redo the whole thing. If everything is not worn and the washers are in the right places (mine are not) it will just clear the block. Anybody tried tightening up everything? Mine has grease fittings but looks like it has never had a lick of grease.

My '70 has a dual MC original and it (the pedal) doesn't clear the block by much. I'm sure it's the same setup. Just be sure you have enough of a spacer to keep it all the way to the left. and you'll be allright.:v6:

Apparently my cross shaft has been a problem before, since it appears some PO has brazed the shaft and ground it smooth. I have a strong feeling that someday it will wear enough to hit the bellhousing. I just measured, and I have a couple inches to go. Yep, some times they just plain forgot to grease that shaft!
