i was thinking about swapping a 4.3 into the willys to replace the 4.1 but the more i looked into the project, the more i realized that swapping out the current 4.1 buick in my willys was impratical and i should just get the 4.1 buick running properly and i would get the same power as the 4.3 i was planning on putting in.

BTW this is "MRS B" formerly beloning to tumbleweed

i think part of the problem with my current set up is the emmisions equipment not working properly and the computer was never programmed specifially for this application.(but i would like to get rid of the emmissions stuff to eliminate complications)
so i was wondering if it is possible to reprogrm the ecm in my current setup while eliminating any unecesary items. my jeep is a 1948 and doesnt need any of the emission stuff but what else can i eliminate. does eliminating the emissions stuff get rid of the MAP sensor and such. if we rework the ECM can i just disconnect the componets we removed form the computer, because i really dont want to pull out the harness.
the setup i have currently works but the engine runs very rich and just seems to lose power in hill climbs and above 45mph on the highway. just very finickey and not working correctly.

    this is my current setup
Motor: 1983 Buick 4.1L V-6, rebuilt about 40K ago, TRW alum. Pistons, .030
overbore, Cam Dynamics RV cam, sequential multi port fuel injection from
Grand National Buick. The computer, e-prom, cal pack, mass air sensor are
all new parts (2 year old) from 84 Regal. K&N cone air filter with outer
    sock.

Alternator: 94 amp Delco reman., 2 months old

Transmission: 700R4 auto, rebuilt 1 year ago, electric servo to lock
in 1-2 gear, all metal rebuild components-not plastic

Transfer Case: Dana 18, 1-1-8" intermediate shaft, single stick, 3:86 low
ratio from O'Brien, rebuilt with large roller bearings and thrust washer
    eliminator,

how long will reprogramming take???? or getting a chip????
can i get away without a reworked harness and just disconect the components that i eliminate form the ecm????

    thanks guys.

carb is not an option.. i do too much rock crawling at high angles.
if i wanted to go carb i'd throw in the rebuilt amc 360 in thats sitting in my gararge.

Isn't the 4.1 ltr a even fire motor. The Grand National 3.8 is an odd fire, because of the Turbo's. Maybe it's not firing right.

With all the engine changes and things omitted it sounds like a chip reprogram is the fix. I found these guys (http://www.affordable-fuel-injection.com/) on Pirate, but not sure they do anything for other than 4.3 and 5.7 chevy's.
