O.K. Here we go. I have a 73 CJ5, 304 CID. What a Junker. At least for now. I have already put in the power steering pump and gear box in.
I am having trouble with the steering column. The column is from a 92 YJ and I have the pedal assembly. I installed the pedal assembly, and I have little or no clearance between the brake pedal and the floor. It seems like the master cylinder push rod is to short, not allowing the brake pedal to come all the way out. When I step on the brake, it only has about one inch travel. Do I have the wrong setup? Any help. I’m ready to junk the thing.

    Thanks

    Mike

i did something similar, 76 dash and column in my 75 cj5, you can not use the yj pedals, you need to keep the stock ones., and modify the top piece that goes from the firewall to the dash. i did a lot!! of cutting and weldng to get the new column to fit.

You should see the set up on my 74 from the previous owner. He put a column in from a 79 seems to work but here is the good part. There is a clutch pedal next to an automatic brake pedal. Far Out! It's like stepping on the e-brake to shift, LOL. I will be doing the same thing as you. Let me know what you come up with! :flag: If you look at some of my past threads others have suggested some good tips. Thread http://www.earlycj5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28656 hope this gets you there! :)

i will try and post some pics of what i did this weekend. i used a dash from whatever year jeep they started using a gm colum, not sure when that started. for pedels i used some from a '75, brake master is from the same vintage as the dash, as is the hydraulic clutch. the secret of the whole thing, i feel , is that i made a template of a yj firewall, and made all those holes on my firewall to match. the whole assembaly looks factory and works like it too.

heck............... i even got a tilt as well now.
