Just put a new TA 470 on my 231 and I'm having a few problems. It idles fine and has good mid range. Now comes the problem, when the vehicle is at idle and I blip the throttle wide open the motor cuts out 3/4 of the way to redline..when driving I can stick it to the floor and it cuts out for a milisecond the keeps accelerating. If I slowly open the throttle to WOT between 3000 and 4500 it stutters bad..I have jetted it from 57 to 55 to 52. I live at 4500 feet so thats why I went with 55. This did not change the problem. I then switched to a 52. Helped a little. I have a set of 48's on order.

Has anyone else had this problem with their TA?

I'm not sure what size the pump is but I have adjusted the stroke both ways and all it seems to do is either bog or hesitate..

Call the Holley tech line and make sure yours is a newer one.
I've heard of a few of the older TA carbs having issues.

Cool I'll talk to them..BTW I just remembered with my old carb I had to my distributor around a little to get more advance. I may have to move it to the original setting since this carb is set up differently..Just a thought I could be too advanced at 3/4 throttle.

ok, i called holley and they said that you might not have a good 12v to your choke or the float level is too high maybe. it sounds to me like you have a bad coil. if it has problems at higher rpm but not lower, maybe your coil cant charge up fast enough? that would explain the fouling due to lack of firing.
    just throwing ideas out.

My coil is brand new plus the ignition system is fine. I refreshed all of that two weeks ago. My choke is good all of the tuining has been done with the air cleaner off so I can see what's going on I have the tuned to come off a little early. So far I have found that if I on't drive the jeep around and just keap the throttle half open my plgs dry foul really bad. I think is a combo between running rich and dropping my vacume on accl which engages the power valve. Like I said I have some new jet on order I should be getting them today. I talked to holley they said if the new jets do not work it may be the metering weights. I'll keep plugging away and see what I come up with. Thanks!

Just a little FYI - I installed my 470 and finished the tuning on it today (once the new cage was done :) ) - I am running 46 jets and bumped the float a little lower. Getting good power and a touch lean as I am at home. I am at 7434' here and will be going up to @13K in the next couple weeks on vac.

Thanks man. I put 48's in and tried 44's. The 44's are way lean but the 48's are just a little rich. I'm going to try 46's and see. I ran it up at 10,000 this weekend and it was a dog.
