Weeeell - the 5 has left me sittin' three times over the last two weeks. My wife is really getting pretty good at dragging me home with a tow strap (been close to home each time).

I rebuilt the carb and replaced the ignition coil- it ran OK for a few days and then it quit on me again.

No fuel flow - replaced the fuel pump and filter. Ran great for a few days and then quit again.

Plenty of fuel and fire. Maybe I need to unplug the fuel return line and install a new one. Trouble is I cannot figure out how the original was routed and the underseat tank is a replacement with no return fitting.

I think I could adapt the sending unit plate to take a return fitting, but does anyone know the best way to route the line:?

The shop manual is really unclear on how the line gets to the tank.

Could be fuel line size too. My replacment tank came with a smaller pickup line than the V-6 required (it was for a 4cyl). I modified it with a larger line. My return is routed beside the fuel line to a hard line on the tank I brazed in.

Drill the top and add a fitting.

Hmmm. Looks as if you you brought the return line into the tub from the same hole the fuel feed line goes out. Had not considered that :) . I knew there was a reason I had that little bit of space under the tank.

Is it all rubber from the engine bay or a combination of steel and rubber?

I should have said so, but I already made that mod. It did not occur to me until now. The PO replaced the tank and that must be what he did a 4 cyl. tank for a 6 cyl.

It's all rubber. 1/4 coming out of the pump, clamp into a foot of 1/2 then into the tank fitting. Gas supply is all rubber 1/2.

Just a thought here, let me know if I'm off in left field on this one.

Could a person tee the return line into the supply line for the pump? One part of me thinks this would work, and the other part says it really shouldn't?

I think you would be defeating the purpose of 2 seperate lines. The return vents into air in top of the tank. With a tee your going to be blowing bubbles into the tank or bleeding gas back into the return portion of the pump. I assume that would be bad but I'm no mechanic.

    My 2 cents...
