When I got Rusty it had an underseat tank with feed line coming off the bottom of tank along with a drain and a return line going back and in the top of the tank between the seat and edge of tub..(homemade set-up)....sending unit for that tank was old style with 6 screws and a gasket...that tank is shot....fast forward to now.... I got a later model underseat tank from Wheelie which is in great shape (but) it is missing the sending unit and lockring... Checking Krages site I can find a sending unit with lockring for a v-6 underseat tank but it says it doesn't have a return line.... the fuel pump on the v-6 has a return port so I gotta run one...at a loss here... all v-6's had returns back to the tank didn't they ??? where does everyones go to ??

Nahh, just plug that return line on the pump. I've got 3 V6s at home w/ fuel pumps w/ no return line. Potential problem could be vapor lock, but I've never had a problem (yet). No worries! :)

If you want to keep the return line, you can easily plumb a fitting into the top of the sending unit. All it takes is a drill, a fitting and a little solder or JB Weld. The return line just dumps into the tank, nothing complex.

My return line is plugged, and I have had concerns. But, it runs fine.

As I understand it, however, what is returned to the tank is mostly vapor.

FSM says the 2 lines are to keep cool fuel running through the system. This to me would indicate their resolution to a vapor lock problem. I have had vapor lock with my single line. I am in the process of doubling up right now.

When I got my rig the return line just went to a tee in the supply line. It worked ok but I changed it to dump back into the tank.

Mine feeds out the bottom. I'd like to get the return line working again but I'm not sure yet the best way to route it.

The FSM shows the return running along side the feed line all the way back to the tank but shows them both entering the top of the tank where the fuel sender wound be on the older tanks....does anybody have a tank that has the feed and return coming out the top of the tank ??

If I am remembering correctly they used a return line in 68 and up. Before that it was a single line and the pump did not have the extra connection on it. Back in the late 70's I needed a pump for my 69 and couldn't find one so I got one for a 67 and it didn't have the return line on the pump. If you look on Advance Auto's web site they list a pump for 68 and up but not for 67 and earlier.

My 70 has the feed and return line up top, both in the same area. The lines are routed from the tank into a factory hole near the center tub and go forward from there. There is a clip on the tank to hold the lines in place.

Is that the one that has the sending unit and lines held in by the locking ring and not screws ?? I'm gonna have to call around and see if I can find one.

My tank has the return line and the supply line comming out the top. There is a dran plug on the bottom that I could see as a possible place to put a supply line, but I've never had a problem with my current setup, so I'm happy.
