Carb Questions

    I've got a amc 360 with a 2bbl carb on it but I'm not sure what kind of carb it is. Some questions I have are:
    1) Do I need a 4 bbl carb?
    2) It is hard to start but when it gets warmed up then it's fine. The question is do I need to use the choke on it or get an electric choke and how do they work?

    I'm new to the jeep thing and trying to learn how I go. I bought a strong jeep that is set up perfect I told but is a little rough around the edges. I drive it in deep water 90% of the time and having to fix things that come along as I go. If someone can tell me anyhting to help with the casue it would be much appreciated.

    The 2V carb is either a Motorcraft 2100 or 2150. You can switch to a 4V if you want to. The Holley Truck Avenger carb is popular, as is the Edelbrock carb. You'll need a new manifold though. The choke is only there to help with starting and drivability when cold - you don't "have" to have it if the car will start without it, but it can be darned inconvenient not having it when the weather is cold. You can get a manual choke kit at the parts store; simple and effective.

    There good 2bbl carbs, sounds like you need to set your choke. I had a 73 jeep with a 2bbl 360 it ran like a fine machine. I have a 304 with a Edlebrock manifold and 4bbl carb, worthless.

    So all I need to do is get a manual choke cord and install it and that will help solve the hard starting after it has sat awhile? Thanks for your help.
    One more question, how will I know what motorcraft carb it is?

    No.... If your jeep sits awhile the fuel probably drained back to the tank. Maybe check your fuel pump pressure.

    The fuel pump pressure is good because it is an electric one and when I turn the key to "run" it starts running and when I give it gas it jets in the carbeurator.

    You need the kit, not just the cable. These are sold at the parts store under the "Help" brand. Includes a plastic cover, a couple of brackets and some other bits beside the cable.

    The 2100 and 2150 look very similar. Both function about the same. If the carburetor has a tag, you may be able to lok it up at the parts store by that number. Otherwise, if it has the big, round altitude compensator on the back of it, it's a 2150. Only some 2150s have that though. All 2150s have a small third venturi on the air horn. If neither of these features are present, it's a 2100. If you have to know, you can post on the www.ifsja.org forum (for Wagoneers and J-trucks) - someone there will have a picture.
