IM going to have to do some tear downs tonight then, I cant go off intake since there both been replaced with the offenhouser (sp).

Whats the ultimate difference in the 225 and 231? Im asking in a serious matter since I was in the rest game and if these all both 231's then I may need to rethink selling my 134......

Is the 231 an oddfire also?

I am looking into the difference also. I know now when I look at the jeeps that are suppose to have the 225, I will be looking at the valve covers first.

See thats my problem though, I have a 65 and 69 that I got with the V6 in them, I have a 57 with the 134, and 2 spare V6 engine one i got for free and the other I baught, but I was under the impression to all 4 of them that they were all 225's. The 65 I got from the original owner who swore up and down it was original from bumper to bumper.

Im coming to realize, its not that big of a deal, lets face it, noone else will know the difference unless your a guru form the board, lol.

Besides, atleast the 231 has more parts available.....

The 231 came in both odd and even fire, all use the same firing order, the 225 has a different timing gear than the 231 even fire. The 225 has cast rockers arms not stamped steel, the 231 even fire uses a metric oil filter and the timing cover is different. The 231 came with both a 14 or 20 bolt oil pan (year), the heads are totally different, the valve covers are different, the 225 uses bolts and nuts on the connecting rods the 231 uses cap screws. The bore is .050" different between the 225 and 231, same stroke. The 231 block has gussets cast into the lifter valley, oil passages in the 231 block are larger as is the oil pickup, they are 5/8" as opposed to 1/2" on the 225. The 231 oils thru the pushrods and the 225 oils thru the cast rockers. Cam bearings on the 225 are all different sizes, the 231 has sames size cam bearings all the way thru. Theres probably more but I can't think of them right now.
