I may have to upgrade my rear springs to Dakota, i like that offset, i could really put my wheels back far without stretching anything :)

Dakota springs will not move your wheels back. The center pin is at 22" which is the same place it is at on a CJ/YJ type spring.

If you run Dakota springs you need to run a traction bar or you will break the driveshaft in half the first time you hit the gas.

:( Ok, then i guess it is time to stetch the jeep... and add dakota springs for a nice ride :)

I guess those springs are real soft, snap the shaft first try :(

That would move the axle 10" forward.

Maybe I'm just not getting this, if the center pin is at 22" from the front mount how would flipping the spring around so the 32" side is forward move the axle forward 10" :?

I should have said 10" towards the center. I was thinking of rear springs

Yes. I originally ran Durango springs in the front - same dimension, but much weaker springs. I bent the crap out of them and replaced them with Dakota springs with the overload removed.

ok here is another question. could you run Xj springs on the front and the good old CJ lift springs on the rear? would it mess with your road manners?

I wouldn't. CJ lift springs are pretty stiff and XJ springs arn't. If I drove my jeep on the road I'd have to install a swaybar to keep the jeep from going squirrly in the turns. But I run a spool in the back so it would be really spooky even with a swaybar

OK, so if my math is right, then dakota springs are 9 inches LONGER than holbrook springs. I have been to 3 junkyards this week and have been measuring and looking and measuring and looking. Unless I'm missing something, with each dakota spring 54" long, on an 80" wheelbase, there would only be 16 inches between hangars in the center of the jeep. (this is with a 23/32 offset and assuming that the centerpin location on a dakota spring coincides with the center of the wheel).

Is it me or does that seem like really long springs? I can get them all day long here for about 50 bucks a spring. This is something I am willing to do, but just want to try and think all the issues through before I cut my legs off my jeep

You are running these Dakota springs SUA and getting 2.5 inches of lift or more, correct? Or are you running them SOA?

Contemplating this right now on an intermediate project. I've heard of XJ guys pulling an extra leaf(s) out of S-10 pickups. I'm wondering if something like that would stiffen them up enough to run stock.

The 2005 Dakota is SOA. I've got one setting in the drive right now.R)

I find it interesting that the Durango springs are softer than Dakota springs. They should be the same, seeing as how the Durango is based on the Dakota (same frame, doors, front fenders and all) and weighs more than the Dakota.:coffee:
