    Hello everybody,

I'm debated which lift I should get for my 68. It has stock suspension on it right now. I'm trying to decided between the 4wd Hardware 2 1/2 inch lift and the 2 1/2 inch bds lift and the 3 inch black diamond lift. The black diamond lift is under 500, and the 4wd hardware kit is 550 and I dont know what the bds lift kit runs. I'm wanting to run 33x9 tires. I'm also wanting to keep my stock ross steering. By the way,the steering has already been rebuilt. I'm also not wanting to do any driveshaft mods.
I was wondering how billy got 34x9 tires with only a 2 1/2 bds lift kit?

    Thanks guys,

    Landon

go with the bds!! you'll get the best ride. 33x9s will fit with about a 1 1/2" lift though. with the right wheels back spacing. same thing with the 34x9s tires its al in the wheel width and back spacing when using a 2 1/2" lift. use 7" wide wheels with about 3.75 or 4" back spacing.

I have the 4wd.com 2.5 lift and it rides great. I think that 4wd is made by BDS. I may be wrong...

I'd recommend the BDS. If I was buying one today, that's what I would buy.
(with a full complement of Rancho 9000 series adjustable shocks. :) )

Call Bob Supplee, you'll be surprised at his price and service.
His prices include shipping to your door, and he still beats the big-catalog prices!! Check around/do a search, lots of our members have saved $$$ by dealing with Bob. Great prices, great service!!

I don't think you can get away with not doing any driveshaft modifications no matter which lift you buy. Doing the driveshafts is just one of the components of lifting your Jeep. Also, I don't know for sure, but I'm pretty sure the guys will tell you that the Ross steering has to go with 33" tires.

Your drive shafts will be fine with the 2.5" lift for sure. I have saginaw swap, so I can't tell you wether the 33's will have an effect on the ross set-up.

Driveshafts are fine with a 2.5" lift.

My apologies. I had to do my driveshafts when I did my 2.5" springs. I just figured everyone did.

I can think of one Jeep that needed a t-fer case drop, the T18 was too long.

Aside from that it's not a common need that I know of. My TJ needed one though for 2" lift and it had the longest rear DS of the TJs.

So I didn't mean to presume that all were ok, MOST are ok. ;)

I called Bob Supplee yesterday and he quoted me 600.00 with shipping. The 4wd Hardware lift kit is almost the same with shipping. I have ruled out the 4wd Hardware lift, but what about the black diamond 3 inch? The black diamond lift is about 150 dollars cheaper.

wow, I thought Bob would have given a better price...
I don't know much about the Black Diamond, other than I had their shocks once... too stiff. I'd expect the same from their springs :?

The only other kit out there that flexes well AND rides comfortably, is the Skyjacker Softride. The Skyjacker seems to be more weight-sensitive than most, and will sag if you exceed stock weight (winch, heavy bumpers, big spare, swingout, hilift... etc). But it gives a very good ride when combined with adjustable shocks. On the trail my ECJ5 rides as smoothly as the TJs :)

Yeah, I was kind of disappointed in the price. My jeep has big heavy aftermarket bumpers so the skyjacker lift would not work well. Maybe the shipping to Midland Texas made the cost higher? I asked him what the advantage of his lifts are, and he said that about the only major thing was the warranty. Aside from the warranty, the 4wd hardware and the bds lifts are almost exactly the same.

It is widely believed that BDS makes the kits for 4WDH... :D

Yes, the 600.00 included shocks. If shocks costed him 40 a piece, thats 550.00 at the price you got them. The price of steel might have drove the price up 50 bucks?

Yes on the Black Diamond kit.
Myself, vajeeper and a few others have them.
BD is now owned by Superlift.
Mine is still not done , just way to much going on right now.
PM or email vajeeper (Ben) or try a search for posts started by him. We talked about it a good bit and he posted pics.
On the Ross setup, Billy still has the Ross on his with 34s. How long it will live is anybodys guess.
