I would like to put a set of swamper tsl 35x12.5x15 on my 68 cj5. My question is a 4" susp. lift and 1.25" wheel spacer going to be enough or am i going to be running into a lot of rubbing problems. the cj will be used for a split 50/50 trail and road use. thanks any comments are appreciated. keith

Ran 35's on CJ with 4" lift 3" backspace only rubbed inside of rear wells in the really rough stuff. My neighbor did the same but went back to 33's to make it easier to get in and out of.

Even the stock tires rub the inside of the rear wheel wells if you flex fully.

I have 33's with a similar setup and I wouldn't go any higher for two reasons; stability and stopping. I wouldn't even want to drive my Jeep with 35's. Even the 33's are a bit tall. I think my next tires will be 32's. Just my opinion.

Have you done anything to upgrade the brakes though?

If you are going that tall, consider swapping in some wide track axles. Gives you 5 inches wider wheel base and a lot more stability to go with the height.
These are wide tracks on my '72 with 35" MTRs. You may still need to trim some sheetmetal to clear the tires at full stuff.

Performance wheel and tire. That is where I found mine for the rear.

    blu69 I know it's too tall.....

I have 36" TSL radials on my '69 -5, theres only two things I don't like. Stock brakes really suck w/36's and it's too high geared w/my 3.73's, even in low range. I don't exactly do any road racing in my jeep but it dosn't seem unstable to me. Reason #3 not to like my big tires will be when my keyed axle D44 gets mad at my 36" swampies! R)

As you can see, Grasshopper, all things in the Jeep Universe are related.
Big Tire Problems= Starting+Stopping+Clearance. Solutions= Disc Brakes+Regearing+Lift and/or Body Trimming. You won't be happy if you can't (or won't) do it all. All you'll have is a dangerous, semi-functional Jeep with big tires. I've been there!
