I went and looked at a real nice '63 CJ5 tub recently that the owner desperately wants to sell for $50. I don't need/can't store the tub, but it has a cherry Willys tailgate that I'd like to have. Any ideas what I should offer him for it? I'm thinking $20, it's a 200 mile round-trip for me to go get it and I'll spend more than that on gas. If I had to, I could buy the whole thing and cut the tub up for some of the sheet metal parts and scrap the rest.

Anybody in the Denver area need a '63 tub? It needs some work, but it's not rotted out...just has some PO "modifications" that'll need patching.

Too late.:( Been calling him for the last week or two to see if he still had it, finally caught up with him tonight and he gave it all away Sunday night. He finally had a guy offer him a case of beer for it and said OK, but the guy showed up empty-handed and he told him to just take it away. I don't need a tub, but I could have cut out the rear floor and some other pieces, plus the tailgate.

Only reason I didn't get it when I saw it was the fact I was trying to help out another member here that needs a tub for his '56. Sent him two emails with all the details about it, but neither me nor the tub owner ever heard from him.

    Bummer.

Unreal. You almost can't buy a decent early 5 tub here in the rust belt. And to offer a guy a case of beer and show up empty handed? I could probably describe a fitting punishment but it wouldn't be appropriate here!

It wasn't "perfect", by any means...it had some holes here and there that were cut in for various reasons, God only knows why, it had had recessed Chevy p/u taillights installed, and it had been bedlined, but it wasn't rotted out anywhere. Definitely fixable, I hated to miss out. I would have had to cut it up for panel parts though, no way to store it. But that tailgate was sweet....except for the bedliner on it.

I have a 71 Jeep script tailgate if you're interested. I understand if you prefer willys. PM me if you're interested.

From my experience, if you've got room to store it and you're offered a deal, take it. parts are getting scarce!

Nah, I need a Willys. I think '63 was the last year for them. I wanted to buy the tub myself, but didn't have $50 to spare. Plus the storage issue, and the reason I checked it out in the first place was to tell another member about it. Also, the bedliner and undercoating kinda turned me off, plus the driving distance to get it. I do snatch up whatever parts I can though, within reason. Although I did just turn down some free hubs from Speedbuggy because I don't really need them and somebody else might.

I hauled a tub around in the back of my pick up for like 2 months till I could store it. Wrapped in a blue tarp no less. FWIW, I've heard of guys paying 75 and 100 bucks for real nice " WILLYS " gates.
