I found a deal on a set of disk brakes 7/8 inch rotors calipers knuckles and hubs and everything for the outers for a 85 cj7 for a $100 is it worth it to pickup and will it work on my d27 to change over to.

Jeep D30 and D27 stuff is not interchangable. I think you want chevy 4x4 or FSJ front calipers and caliper mounts. They will bolt on over your spindles with some grinding. not sure what rotors and hubs you need. I'm sure there's a write-up on here somewhere. Good luck

Jim, If you want to stick t CJ parts you will need the 1 1/8" rotors and 6 bolt caliper bracket from a 76-77 1/2 CJ D30.

The 77-78 factory cj disks with the 1 1/8" thick rotors are a complete bolt on to the dana 25/27 with the exception of a little grinding on the knuckle.

so if i wanted to do the same swap i could just go ask for what from a 77 CJ

I am looking for a list to print off so i don't miss anything, including master cyl etc for the front

You would need the dust shields, rotors, brackets, calipers and all hardware. The spindle hubs if you can get them, otherwise you will need to replace your inner bearing race with ones made for the above application as they are an 1/8" thicker than the ones used on the drum brake applications. I think the bearings are the same though.

I am about to do this swap that is why i need a pretty percise list. Thanks

I plan on doing the rear as well. Do you have a ball park cost?

yeah, but i was looking at the all Jeep swap...

I have read, printed, studied, and reread that article...it is probably what i am going to do since it seems cheap, straight forward, and little to no fabbing. but i just wanted to weight my options

I am reading this post and I guess I have a few questions about this. I just picked up a dana 30 with a date code on it of 3 27 76 AE. It has the 1 1/8 disc brakes. It also has the 6 bolt warn hubs. It was set up for power steering also ( I picked up the saginaw and the pump with it)
So a 76 will work as far as I can see? I think these were an option in 76.My other question is I have a d44 rear with 4.88. I now have a dana 30 with 3.54. What do I have to change in the rear to go with the 3.54 other than the R/P gears?

I know you would have to change the carrier also. Question is though are you sure you want to go to 3.54 gears?

Well I had the jeep up to 55 on the road and it was screaming, I plan on a run around jeep and part time beach buggy. I am running 31s. Are these gears to high?

Why not find a narrow track 30 and put the 85 knuckles on it and then swap it into the CJ? This will also allow you to use the high strength axles with the larger u-joints that are available for the 30.

The 85 knuckles will bolt on to a narrow track 30 housing.

Now this a real possibilty since I have a springover narrow trac sittin in the parts pile at home. Is the strength that much better than d27. Just worried about settin up a springover unit.

If you decide to shellout the $$$ for the chromolly shafts and upgraded U-joints then yes the 30 will be much stronger. Stock I am not sure if there is any strength difference between the 2.

Was the housing you have converted to spring over? If so des it still have the spring under mounts on it?

Yes it was converted and as i remember the spring under mounts were removed. And by the sounds of it the $$$ for the shafts and axles is up there a bit and would be along term project as far as the wife and my budget is concerned but it sounds worth lookin into.
