Original jeep hardtop will be up for sale as soon as I can find the time to take it off and get the wife to agree (she didn't want it until she heard someone else did).:v6:

Why do you want to get rid of it? I can see taking it off and putting on a soft top, but I can't understand why folks are so eager to get rid of perfectly good hard tops. Guess I'm just too much of a packrat, but it sure seems to me like they'd be great to have in cold weather....but then I've never had one either. Just looks like something that someday you'd wish you still had. I'd like to have one just to have the option. Then I guess there's the storage issue...

We've discussed this at length before. I've had both and I would not have a full hard top again, though I might consider a half-cab.

If I wanted to use the Jeep to plow, or if it were your only car in the snow belt, it might be ok.

Drive the Jeep with it on and off, and see how you like it. I think you'll find a big difference in how it drives.

Of course, if I had my choice, I'd have no top (or just a sun shade) and warm weather all the time. If you're going to drive any distance, you really need some kind of top - otherwise the wind buffeting gets tiresome.

    Rondog,
May not be a question. The wife may not let it go. Personally I've never liked it and winter is not really a deal for me (I ride in the comfort of my chevy then).

A lot of people talk about how heavy a hard top is, but they don't really weigh any more than a couple of normal size guys. Handles differently is more perception than reality also. Unless one has a soft suspension the weight distribution/top heavy issue won't be a problem either.

    Hello all, I'm back!
Hey I have a to stay away from the wind when the hard top goes on. The Only time the Lil' Ug sits up straight is when the wind is coming from the driver's side:shock: I live in the Denver, Colorado area and when the heavy snows come around the hard top stays on.

After 2 straight years of driving with my hard top on......The day I took it off I remember how much better the brakes worked and how much quicker it felt off the line. I know with a 2.5" lift (not squishy) it has much less sway on the trail or street with the soft top.
