How do I tell if I have 9" or 11" drums

    Do you measure the inside diameter of the drums or the diameter of the backing plates.
    Inside diameter of my drums is 9 and the back plates measure 11. I got excited when I measured the backing plates thinking I already had 11" brakes.

    Then you have 9". You measure the inside of the drum.

    Thanks Mcruff thats what I figured. Now I have to find those bigger backing plates.

    So know that I know for sure that I have to upgrade the brakes does that mean that every thing from the backing plates forward is going to need to be replaced.

    Yep. Backing plates, shoes, drums.
    Best sources are 72-75 CJs, or some 70's postal Jeeps; 70's wagoneers.

    Or you can buy ready-to-install kits from R & P 4WD with all new components (except the backing plates, which are refurbed...

    11" drums are great... drill them if you plan to be in alot of water... :shock:

    used the backing plates from an '71 bronco with '73 jeep drums and hardware. also used the bronco front cylinders all around.
